Acclaimed Welsh harpist, Catrin Finch, joins Swiss flautist Philipp Jundt , and a select band of outstanding young Europeans for this colourful concert. Formerly the Royal Harpist to H.R.H, the Prince of Wales, Catrin’s a charismatic champion of the harp. This concert finds her on more familiar terrain with Mozart’s double concerto, its artful dialogue showing Mozart at his most charming and lyrical. Debussy’s exotic test piece for the short-lived chromatic harp provides an entrancing encore. Two contrasting orchestral perennials complete the programme. Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances is a fine example of his sensuous instrumental colours. Schubert’s upbeat Fifth Symphony also displays the hand of a musician who knew the orchestra inside out, its apparent ease and simplicity belying its purposeful underlying design.
