Duo Aerius, comprising violin and guitar, was formed by two masters degree students at the Royal Northern College of Music when violinist, Christopher, was looking for a guitarist to teach him to play the mandolin. They gave their first performance at Forsyth Music Shop in Manchester playing Chris Godhard’s arrangement of The Lark Ascending. Since then, they have performed in and around Manchester, expanding their repertoire with new arrangements and commissions.

They launch into their programme with three virtuosic showpieces by Eugene Bozza before a sonata by Niccolo Paganini that is not his usual flashy display, but a more relaxed dialogue. Will Frampton is a young British composer, and his Music Alone for solo violin was composed in 2018 for Manchester’s Psappha Ensemble, while The Radiant Plain is a new work being given one of its first performances. The duo end with Guitarist Chris’s own arrangement of Vaughan Williams’s evocative masterpiece, The Lark Ascending, which constantly tops the classical charts and delights audiences as the solo violin flutters and soars above the English countryside.

Access to the Dress Circle foyer will be open from 12.15pm, seating is unreserved, and the bar will be open for refreshments before the performance at 1pm.
