J S Bach Partita No. 2 in C minor, BWV. 826
Beethoven Sonata in E flat, Op. 31 No. 3
Prokofiev Sonata No. 7 in B flat, Op. 83
The 2014 BBC Young Musician winner makes his Nottingham debut with one of six Partitas which Bach wrote in five years, with the dances showing his lighter side. Beethoven’s sonata, known as ‘The Hunt’, after the galloping finale, is a relaxed and brilliant work, while Prokofiev’s is the second of three ‘war’ sonatas. Subtitled ‘Stalingrad’ it’s a potent reaction to Stalin’s regime of terror.
