Schumann       Papillons, Op. 2
Liszt                 Vallee d’Obermann
Schubert         Four Impromptus Op. 90, D. 899

Young Turkish pianist Can Çakmur opens our new season with a richly Romantic programme. He begins with Schumann’s youthful story of a masked ball where two brothers – representing the composer’s vying personalities – dance until the clock strikes midnight. Next up is a piece the young Liszt composed on a journey through the Swiss Alps, that captures the immensity of the mountains as memorably as the works of Turner and Byron. Can’s recital ends with four pieces written by Schubert shortly before his untimely death at 32. Delving into deep emotions, they’re both lavish and atmospheric.

Ticket price includes tea, coffee and cake before or after the concert.
