The Drivetime Concert 2017

Classical Music Family
This event has passed.

Films, TV, radio, adverts, even video games – classical music is so often the soundtrack to our lives but there’s no better way to experience its awesome power than a live concert with an 80-piece orchestra – and the Drivetime Concert is the perfect place to start. It’s an informal hour of fantastic music played by the Hallé Orchestra, with well-known pieces from some of the world’s best composers, alongside epic film scores.

There’s a friendly, fun atmosphere and the pieces are introduced from the stage by our presenter, Tom Redmond, so it’s ideal for families too. The concert starts at 6pm so you’ll miss the rush hour traffic and there’s plenty of time afterwards to grab a meal in town or get the kids to bed.

This year’s concert is all about Heroes and Villains – from the apple-shooting, Swiss freedom fighter, William Tell, to the monstrous Kashchei in Stravinsky’s magical ballet, The Firebird. Witness the fierce rivalry of the Montagues and Capulets in Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and join Harry Potter as he battles the dark wizardry of Voldermort in John Williams’s Harry’s Wonderful World.

Best of all, there’s the unique opportunity to perform with the Hallé in our massive Drivetime Choir, performing two choral classics, O Fortuna from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and the Grand Finale from Verdi’s opera Aida. The Drivetime Choir is open to all and is an experience you will never forget.
