A semi-staged rehearsed reading of a new one-act play by David Longford.

1977 – the year of Star Wars, punk rock and Silver Jubilee mania.  In Nottingham the Theatre Royal was closed for a massive refurbishment.  It was the first major change to this prestigious venue since renowned architect Frank Matcham made his characteristic alterations in 1897.

Two local builders working on the 70s face-lift discover an item lost to time, tucked behind the Theatre Royal’s oak timbers, that immediately connect them to their Victorian predecessors.

Based on a real-life event, The Royal Builders is a new one-act play utilising many of the stories and memories that have been unearthed during the Theatre Royal’s heritage and archive project.
