Louis Andriessen M is for Man, Music, Mozart

Louis Andriessen’s 1991 score to Peter Greenaway’s short film M is for Man, Music, Mozart, is a vibrant example of the controversial Dutch composer’s music, combining propulsive energy with vivid colours. It begins with a woman singing words through the alphabet until the letter M is reached, which the Gods use it to make Man. Having created Man, they give him movement, then music and finally Mozart so that they may have perfect music.

Musicians from Sinfonia Viva make up a big-band style ensemble and are joined by acclaimed London-based jazz singer Alice Zawadzki. Alice’s influences range from New Orleans jazz to folk traditions. She released her first solo album China Lane in 2014 and has headlined many alternative and jazz festivals in the UK and beyond.
