We are delighted to present to you a script-in hand performance of The House That Jack Built -the first-ever Panto at the Theatre Royal which premiered on Boxing Day in 1865.
David Longford (formerly of this parish) will kick-off the evening, presenting an introduction of his adaptation of the original Victorian script. This short talk will explore the show’s history and local connections; the clever wordplay; its extraordinary characters, from Squire Boobyhatch to the Queen of the Amazons; and lost Panto traditions. All whilst trying to work out what exactly was supplied for “for the convenience of Gentlemen” TALLYHO!
A chance to not only watch the script brought to life by The Nottingham Rebels Community Theatre Group, directed by Rebecca Morris, but also to discover the fascinating context of this Victorian treasure, find out what it takes to adapt a 158 year old text, and explore an exhibition curated by our Heritage Archive Volunteers.
Not to be missed.
