Musicians from Chetham’s School of Music

The amazing young musicians of Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester return to the Live at Lunch stage with their annual varied line up of rising stars. This year they come with clarinet, cello, soprano and flute.

With all musicians accompanied by Chetham’s Head of Accompaniment, Nick Oliver, clarinettist Annalise gets us underway with the first movement of Brahms’s second Clarinet Sonata, and Hungarian composer Béla Kovács’s Hommage á Manuel de Falla, a tribute to the great Spanish composer. Cellist Lewis takes the stage next with a sonata by Italian composer Luigi Boccherini, followed by Saint-Saëns’s beautiful Swan from Carnival of the Animals.

Next up is soprano Scarlett with a range of pieces, beginning with Purcell’s enchanting song Sweeter than Roses, and Clara Schumann’s melancholic Ich Stand in Deunklen Traumen (I Stood Darkly Dreaming), before finishing off with Franz Lehár’s operetta showpiece Meine Lippen, sie kussen so heiss. Finally, completing the line-up, flautist Laima performs a pair of colourful French pieces, with Fauré’s lyrical Fantasie and Henri Dutilleux’s sparkling competition piece, Sonatine.

Book in advance and save £1. Tickets are £6 on the day.
