Nottingham-based composer, teacher and pianist Tim Lole, and opera baritone Garry Magee return to the Live at Lunch stage with a programme that includes Vaughan Williams’s acclaimed Songs of Travel. The charismatic duo have been regular visitors to the Live at Lunch stage over the years, and Tim appeared in our first ever series back in 2010.

Tim is the Musical Director of the NTU Choir, VoiceChoice and Streetwise Opera in Nottingham. He has won both the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition and the Sainsbury’s Choral Conductor of the Year, and has worked as an opera repetiteur at the Royal Opera and Glyndebourne. Garry was the First Prize-winner of the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Award in 1995 and a prize-winner in the 1996 International Belvedere Competition in Vienna. He has enjoyed a varied career and has performed at the world’s finest opera houses, including the Royal Opera and English National Opera.

The Songs of Travel from 1904 is a song cycle that marked a significant step towards true English Art Song. With texts drawn from poems by Robert Louis Stevenson, Vaughan Williams displays an unequalled understanding of the beauty of the English language. Tim and Garry’s programme also includes songs composed by Tim, based on the poetry of Walt Whitman, Robert Frost and settings of Shakespeare’s words.

Access to the Dress Circle foyer will be open from 12.15pm, seating is unreserved, and the bar will be open for refreshments before the performance at 1pm.
